As a proud francophone, Liza Sutherland has been teaching at the French Catholic high school in Hawkesbury [l’École secondaire catholique régionale de Hawkesbury (ESCRH)] for the last 19 years, enriching the lives of the students in addition to ensuring the vitality of the French language within the French Catholic schools. Liza also organizes and leads fundraisers for educational field trips and enrichment programs, as well as support important causes such as the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Foundation, Hawkesbury General Hospital Foundation, Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, Canadian Cancer Society, Christmas Elf fundraiser in collaboration with Valoris, and the Hawkesbury and L’Orignal Food Banks.

In charge of the ESCRH’s pastoral, Liza has the ability to engage students and staff in activities to promote Catholic values. She is also an active member of the Soleil Levant council, a group of six regional parishes, as well as the Liturgical Committee, Pastoral and Temporal Affairs Councils for the Saint-Pierre-Apôtre parish, and she was recently invited to sit on the organizing committee of the Liturgy and Sacraments. Her innovative ideas, her charisma, and expertise are only a few qualities that make Liza a well respected member.

Ultimately, Liza is an individual whose community volunteering serves as a guiding light to the rest of us.
